COVID-19 booster vaccine advice

Everyone 5 years and older can now book an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine. An additional booster dose, known as the fourth dose, is now available to people 30 years and older. This may be a fifth dose for some people. If you have had COVID-19, wait at least 3 months before getting your next dose

Getting ready for your appointment

Please do not come to your vaccination appointment:

• if you are feeling unwell with fever, cough, runny nose or other symptoms that could be from COVID-19
• if you are waiting for COVID-19 test results, or have tested positive for COVID-19
• if you are a close contact of someone with COVID-19, or
• if you are in quarantine.

 If you have had another vaccine in the 14 days before your COVID-19 vaccine appointment, please let us know as we may need to reschedule your appointment. If you cannot make it to your vaccination appointment, please contact us to arrange a new appointment.

Managing COVID-19 at home with assistance from your general practice

Most people who test positive for COVID-19 will likely only experience mild symptoms and recover without requiring special treatment or hospitalisation, especially if fully vaccinated.

This guide assists COVID-19 positive patients to self-manage their symptoms at home, and is the patient complement to the GP resource Home-care guidelines for patients with COVID-19.

Patients should use the most relevant information in this guide to suit their needs.

Patients who want to talk to their GP about their results or any symptoms should make a telehealth appointment.

Patients who have a higher risk of adverse outcomes or more severe disease should speak with their GP about their positive result. You can find a list of factors that can increase risk of severe disease on the Department of Health’s website.
